Doosoo Kim “Dooks” is a talented cinematographer, editor and photographer with over twelve years of experience in the industry.

However, that is not the only experience he has. At age thirty-three, Dooks has traveled the world capturing life’s finest moments. He is an individual that has gone with the flow of life. However, this mentality of his has allowed Dooks to gain experience in the most valuable thing one can achieve; that is the experience of living life to the fullest. He’s traveled the world having lived in Florence as well as Africa for small periods of his life. A black belt, Dooks once participated in a fight club in Taiwan just for fun. He considers himself one of the best editors in New York and it is hard to argue against it. His knowledge for film makes you question if all he does is live and breathe film.

On our trip in the mountains, we debated for hours on politics, film and ego. But rather than shout and scream like we are used to seeing in debates these days, this debate was far civic and philosophical. Despite us having completely different views it was important to hear each other out and understand why we have the views we do.

We asked him a question about whether he could see himself settling down in the future. His response was “Yes of course I’d love to.” But then he thought for a second and said “Actually, I don’t if that is what my forty-year-old self would want.” Dooks stressed the importance of living in the now and not in our “matrix” or in other words our head. He mentioned how we often like to live in our head thinking about the future when reality does not always play to what we think. He said a great trait in life is to have an open mind. By doing so, you allow yourself the ability for opportunities to come your way. Dooks left us on an important note which is what do we know know? Perhaps the answer is, “I know that I know nothing.”

Don’t let the voice in your head prevent you from living.
